I'm not going to get into all the craziness of this dream I had last night, but just comment on a highlight. In the dream, I was a cop and discovered that my sister had been arrested. I can't remember what for, but one of the reasons she was hauled in was for watching Glee. Watching Glee wasn't a crime, per se, but a suspicious activity that could, say, warrant the issuing of, well, a warrant to search someone's apartment or something. This is very strange, in no small part because I'm 90% sure my sister doesn't watch Glee.

Golden Globe TV should/will

Best Television Series (Drama) - The Good Wife/Mad Men

Everyone loves Weiner.

Best Actress (Drama) - Julianna Margulies/Julianna Margulies

I think if Sons had a wider audience, Sagal would take it, but I think this is Margulies' award.

Best Actor (Drama) - Jon Hamm/Hugh Laurie

Bryan Cranston literally has no more room in his house for awards, and Hamm deserves it, but I think everyone misses Laurie. The man gives good speech.

Best TV Series (Comedy) - The Big Bang Theory/Modern Family

Just a personal taste thing.

Best Actress (Comedy) - Tina Fey/Laura Linney

This is tough, because I only watch 30 Rock and The Big C, but I believe Liz Lemon exists. So...

Best Actor (Comedy) - Jim Parsons/Jim Parsons

I also believe Sheldon exists and that his seat is sacred.

Best Miniseries/Made-for-TV movie - The Pillars of the Earth/?

I'm sure The Pillars of the Earth does not, in fact, deserve it over its fellow nominees, but it's the only one I've seen, and I'd like Starz to get some credit for the sheer unadulterated joyful madness of its programming over the last few years.

Best Actress (Miniseries) - Romola Garai/Claire Danes

Romola was a fantastic Emma.

Best Actor (Miniseries) - Idris Elba/Carlos Ramirez

I've only seen Luther, and Idris Elba is spectacular, but I've heard great things about Ramirez.

Best Supporting Actress - Julia Stiles/Sofia Vergara

I think everyone thinks Sofia is overdue.

Best Supporting Actor - Scott Caan/Eric Stonestreet

I know people are thinking Colfer for this, but I don't buy it. Anyway, really Scott Caan's hair deserves the award. Love me some Caan.

Lost--the end begins (spoiler alert)

Ha, okay, so I stole that from Salvation, but who cares?

Okay, so how crazy was last night? I have physics issues with the way this time travel is working. I figure there are three possibilities, two of which assume time is linear. In the first assumption, there is a single line, and if you can jump back in time, you always jumped back in time, and you can't change the past because the past is immovable. However, this would set up a looping issue and preclude free will. I don't like that.

The second assumption, time is linear, but a new ray can start. From the moment, Sawyer and Juliet and the others went back, they started a new branch, an alternate future, where everything changes and they can, possibly, stop the plane crash. However, since we've been watching the non-time traveling Losties, this makes this impossible because they're on the same ray (because of the picture Sun saw). They're still following the original track where nothing in their history has altered--or maybe it has, and we just haven't been able to perceive it. I don't know. Anyhow, both seem unlikely.

The third assumption is that, like Farraday said originally, they didn't just travel in time--they traveled in space. Which seems more physics-likely. That means the past they went to wasn't the past, but a past, maybe a parallel but non-intersecting past. But the photo of them in the 70s that Sun found kind of ruins that too because it shouldn't directly affect her present unless when she and the others crashed, they crashed into that same alternative reality as the 70s Losties, but that reality's future, so she still remembers her past, but it's not the past of the reality she's in. That seems unlikely, though.

So all of those logical possibilities are tossed out the window. We haven't seen off-islanders since they went back, so maybe time and space and consequences differ between the island and the rest of the world. Maybe things change off-island, but not on, or vice-versa.

Next, Locke isn't Locke! Obviously! How did we not figure that out? The actual Locke would not want to kill Jacob. Duh. Is Jacob really dead? Is Locke the permanent realization of that guy on the island with Jacob when the Black Rock approached? What is Jacob? Clearly, he's some kind of divine entity or an extension of the island...but he seemed to bleed like your average guy.

And then, Juliet. Is she going to be like Desmond now? Was that her eye in the promo for 2010?

Let's say it does have a pure reset, which seems impossible. Are we gonna see the people from the plane who died in the first few seasons?

I have more thoughts, but...mostly I can't believe we have to wait to 2010 to see how the writers turn ALL THAT into a satisfying final season.

let's get this young, fresh, hip party started

Damn. Does 90210, The Lame Class, suck! And really it should be marketed at me. I LOVED the first 90210. It wasn't great, but at least, you know, it did a decent job with casting. Your lead girl on this show is potentially the worst actress possible, and her teeth freak me out. Girl is too young to have whitening like that. All the boys are lame. They're not even OC interesting.

Season 11 of America's Next Top Model is amazing, though. I never think Tyra can top her crazy, or her crazy cast of models, but then she does. Clark can go. I'm a fan of the only awkward French girl in history, Marjorie, Jocelyn, who looks kind of ugly in reality and awesome in photos, that crazy cat-faced vegan girl, and the Alaskan. I have nothing against Isis, except her name and her jacked teeth. Girl will last a while, but I'm backing Miss Marseille.

Raising the Bar I watched too. Seems pretty conventional. Wish Mark-Paul would not have crummy hair. He doesn't have to dye it blonde, like he used to back in the day, but cutting it would be nice.

I tried to be an adult and get a physical, but I was thwarted in about 9 different ways. Damn it all.

So you know the Emmy nods have been announced. People who've seen The Wire are irked it got snubbed for the billionth time, but I with the lack of HBO or Netflix in my world will have to be content to feel sad about the FNL and BBT snubs. Sad not surprised.

However, Bryan Cranston more than deserves his nod. More than. So that's great.

Am looking forward to third installment of Dr. Horrible tonight. Will probably go online around 9pm tonight Pacific Coast time.

Won some HBO first season DVDs. So that's what was in Sun Valley. Nice, but still annoying to have to go there twice.

Can't see The Dark Knight yet. Too dark for me and Heath Ledger's passing is still raw.

Everything Old is Regurgitated Again

Oh, Miss Quinn. I suppose when a great writer dies, anything written about that person in short lines is a poem worthy of The New Yorker. You and Jean Valentine should be ashamed. Also, JD McClatchy' weedy poetry again? The man needs to learn how to prune.

Yesterday was a wreck. When I came home, I put on Eureka and didn't turn it off but only half-watched it. Mediocre and mundane. Kind of like what happened to The 4400.

I'm a little ill, a little lonesome, a little depressed. Need a posse. And a free gym. And so on.

Hoorah for Mad Men's second season pickup!
